Course Description: This course provides an overview of discrimination and bias as it pertains to the field of OB/GYN as a whole and the impact on healthcare and Underrepresented Minority (URM) access to minimally invasive GYN surgery today. Our speakers will give insight to tools that can be utilized to combat unconscious bias and foster constructive discourse when facing overt discrimination, unconscious bias, and microaggressions. The course will also help participants identify opportunities to increase the inclusion of underrepresented minority populations in the profession and leadership of MIGS.

Course Objectives:

1) Assess the impact of racism in its various forms and the history behind race and racism in the USA and how it pertains to healthcare and URM access to MIGS

 2) Identify and explore tools to combat unconscious bias; and

 3) Integrate best practices for promoting diversity and inclusivity within an individual’s organization.
